Grøningen’s Seafood Academy for Children and Youth

On June 14th and 15th, Kvitsøy became a center of learning and inspiration when Grøningen’s Seafood Academy opened its doors to children aged 7-14. With support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, Lerøy Delico, Sterling White Halibut, and the Norwegian Seafood Council, and in collaboration with Restaurant Grøningen and TEAL, the young participants were given a unique opportunity to dive deep into the world of seafood.

An Inspiring Weekend at Kvitsøy!

Activities and Learning

The children started the day at Grøningen pier and the lobster hatchery, where they learned about the important work of preserving the lobster population around Kvitsøy. After gathering scallops, they moved on to the Lobster Museum’s kitchen. There, cleaning, filleting, and preparing various fish and shellfish dishes were demonstrated under the expert guidance of Lasse Pallesen and Sigve Skretting. From frying fish cakes to tasting delicious bites of hake, cod, plaice, Sterling halibut, and scallops – it was a weekend full of flavors and learning!

Certificates and Gratitude

The weekend ended with a formal presentation of certificates to all the participants. We extend a big thank you to the volunteers at the lobster hatchery, as well as our partners and sponsors who made this possible. A special thanks to Malin and Lasse at Restaurant Grøningen for their fantastic efforts. This weekend, we not only inspired the young participants to make healthier food choices but also strengthened their understanding and respect for the Norwegian seafood industry. We look forward to hosting more such academies in the future!
