2024 has been a record-breaking year for Apal Sideri, where they have not only strengthened their position in the Norwegian cider industry but also distinguished themselves as one of the fastest-growing brands at Vinmonopolet. With an impressive 45% growth, Apal Sideri has solidified its place among Norway’s most popular cider producers.
What started as an experiment on the family estate in Ryfylke has evolved into one of Norway’s largest cider producers. Dan Olav Sæbø, originally a carpenter, quickly discovered his passion for fruit growing and cider production. After winning the World Cider Awards in 2020 with «Sølvsider», Apal Sideri transitioned from small-scale production to becoming a market leader.
This success comes at a time when Vinmonopolet is experiencing an overall sales decline of 3.7%, mainly due to increased cross-border shopping and duty-free sales. Nevertheless, Norwegian-produced cider has shown significant growth, and Apal Sideri has been a key player in this development.
2024 has been marked by significant milestones:
The products are available at Vinmonopolet, duty-free shops, and the farm’s own store. In addition, Apal Sideri has invested in experience-based tourism with a farm shop and Apal-stova, where visitors can participate in tastings, guided tours through the orchards, and learn more about the craft of cider making. This has resulted in over 3,500 visitors in 2024.
A Driving Force for Norwegian Cider
The increasing demand for Norwegian cider has led to an expansion of the selection at Vinmonopolet, where there are now nearly 280 different Norwegian ciders and fruit wines available. Apal Sideri’s success demonstrates how high-quality products based on Norwegian raw materials can compete with international producers and renowned wine regions.
The Road Ahead
With solid results behind them, Apal Sideri is planning further expansion. Growing demand creates opportunities for both product development and new markets.
«We have only seen the beginning of what Apal Sideri can become. We have big plans and will continue to develop both products and experiences,» says an optimistic Dan Olav Sæbø.
With a strong market position, increasing consumer interest, and ambitious plans for the future, there is no doubt that Apal Sideri has exciting years ahead.
